On 11/22/16, a new Form I-9 Employment Authorization Verification form was implemented by USCIS. Employers will have two-months to integrate the new I-9 into their employment processes. That means beginning on 1/22/17, ALL employers must use the new I-9 for all new hires and re-verifications.
The new I-9 adds a new page for re-verifications and other updates; detailed instructions specifying abbreviations to use when listing the “issuing authority” and “document title” for documents submitted by an employee to demonstrate identity and work authorization; and easier online functionality.
Please take time to review your I-9s. Be sure your company’s compliance and completion procedures are in “legal” order. Contact California Law Firm if you would like us to review your current I-9 practices to identify and prevent any potential legal issues.
